Florida

Hey all,
We have been in Florida now for about 10 days and we are happy to report we are having a wonderful time. The weather wasn't too great for the first week but since Friday it has been perfect. For our first few days we did a lot of hanging out and watching T.V. After the weather turned better, things really changed.
Friday was the first nice day and we were able to golf. I played ok considering I haven't touched a club since August. I even parred a hole. Shabbos we did a lot of laying around and we played go fish. There is a new Kosher restaurant/market by my in-laws place so we were able to get some good Israeli food to eat. When Shabbos was over we had a little bite to eat and we went to see The Producers. It was pretty good if you are in to Mel Brooks.
Sunday there wasn't much to do because of the big birthday so we had brunch at someone's house and then we went to see Munich after dinner. I thought the movie was pretty good considering the topic but it was a bit long (3 hours). Today was cool. We went down to the Everglades and took an airboat ride and we saw some alligators and some beautiful birds. It was cute because when we turned on the digital camera, the first picture was Jonah sleeping on our pillow chair. We thougth it was cute. Anyway, when we finished the ride we hopped over to Miami for lunch at Shem Tov's Pizza.
Now we are back home and waiting to have dinner. We just lit candles, don't forget to light number two. Happy Chanukah everyone. We miss you adn can't wait to see you all when we get home. Chow for now!!

Northwest Airlines

I had an amazing occurence with NWA yesterday and I felt I should share with all of you since, afterall, this blog is all about what happens to me, and also because I am sure we have all had bad experiences with airlines in the past and this positive one may help us all get bpast those trying times.

Last night, my sister-in-law flew from a small airport in New York to Detroit. From Detroit she was supposed to go on to Florida with a 3 hour layover at Metro. My wife and I decided we were going to pick her up and go out for a bit so we could see her before she had to board her next flight and go home.

As we picked her up, however, we noticed something wasn't right. She was very pale and she was shaking and she said she felt sick. We thought she was just shivering from the cold, bu we soon learned she really wasn't doing well. Thinking it wasn't a great idea for her to fly again last night, we made a few phone calls and decided we would try to get her on a flight this morning rather than have her fly when she wasn't feeling well.

So, I contacted NWA by phone (800-225-2525) and explained to the woman on the phone our situation. She explained, that because my sister-in-law was already checked in, we would have to talk to a ticket agent in the airport. I explained to the woman that what she told me made sense and I thnaked her and hung up the phone.

We proceeded to the airport and the place was fairly empty. I went up to the line and we were shown to counter #48, Edie's counter (pronounced like the ice cream). I explained to Edie our situation and she told me that we were advised on the phone that we would have to purchase a new ticket for one way from DTW to FLL for this morning. I calmly questioned her since the women on the phone said we may be able to get her on a flight by way of exception. Edie took another look and realized the note said the worst case scenario would be to buy a new ticket, but not that we would for sure have to. Within 30 seconds she issued a boarding pass for this mornings light at 9:10 and we were on our way back to Oak Park.

In short, I was impressed at how the airlines was so nice and courteous and how they helped us so quickly. After all, my sister-in-law was already checked in for last nights flight and went to the conter 5 minutes before they were starting to board. The only thing I thought was wierd or that I questioned, was they never checked her ID. All I showed the woman was the boarding pass for last night's flight and she used the information from there to issue the new pass. What if we had found that boarding pass in the baggage claim area and someone else was looking for it to get on their next flight to Florida? We could have simply picked up a free one way to the land of the sun. Of course that wasn't the case, and all is well.

Till next time all.
Peace

Lions vs. Vikings

Hey all. It has been a few days since I have been able to post. It has been a crazy week. My father called me late last night and asked me if I was available to go with him to the Lions game this sunday. As many of you know, my father has season tickets to the Lions and I have been going to the games since I was alittle kid.

After some thought and consideration, I decided I would go with him to the game. I decided this based on a few different reasons. First of all, I don't get to spend a lot of quality time with my father and the games are a chance for us to go out and have a great time together by ourselves. I know it sounds sappy, but it is true, and we do have a lot of fun. Second, I was thinking about the all the changes the Lions have made this week, and how great it would be to see these changes up close and personal. I mean, who knows, the Lions may never lose again, and I want to be there for the the first victory if this record breaking streak.

The third reason, however, was the one that really put me over the peak. Earlier this season, around Sukkos time, my father and I, and my two siblings, all went to a Lions game together. It was week 6 - we lost to Carolina in a heartbreaker 21-20. The Friday before the game, my brothers and I all went out to buy jerseys. We bought one for my father as well. Now who do you think my father and I both got, Dre Bly. So it should all be coming together now. I want to be able to where my jersey one more time while Dre is still on the team. After all the comments that were made this week and all that is going on, I am thinking I may have made a very poor investment. Either way, I will still where the jersey proud, as I still do my McCarty jersey when rooting for the Red Wings.

With all this being said, I guess I somewhat look forward to ruining a perfectly good Sunday downtown at Ford Field. May your teams all win wherever you are from, except Minnesota. Peace for now.
